Leon “Rocky” Edwards is presently the UFC Welterweight Champion in the UFC. He is also # 4 in the UFC pound for pound rankings for men. Edwards, popularly known as “Rocky” is the first Jamaican Champion in the UFC. Despite losing in his UFC debut, he has turned things around and has also won Performance of the Night twice against opponents like Kamaru Usman and Seth Baczynski.

He has also tied with Georges St - Pierre for having the second longest unbeaten streak in the history of the welterweight division of the UFC with 12 straight victories. “Rocky” has grown into one of the most admired fighters inside the Octagon. Prior to the UFC, he competed at British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) and has been a former one time BAMMA RDX Welterweight Champion. With a MMA record of 21-3-0 so far, Leon “Rocky” Edwards will defend his welterweight title against Colby “Chaos” Covington at UFC 296: Edwards vs Covington on December 16, 2023.

Leon Edwards - Jorge Masvidal Backstage Fight

The incident involving the backstage fight between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal happened at UFC Fight Night: Till vs Masvidal on March 16, 2019 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Leon Edwards had defeated Gunnar Nelson while Jorge Masvidal had defeated Darren Till in the event. After his fight, Masvidal was in the backstage, giving intervuiews about his victory over Darren Till. Unfortunately, Leon Edwards approached him and interrupted his interview to challenge him to a fight. However, this was not well-liked by “Gamebred” who confronted “Rocky” and attacked him with a series of bare-knuckled punches. The two fighters were soon separated and Leon Edwards suffered from a cut in the process.

What does three piece and a soda mean?

The term “three piece and a soda” was used by Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal to refer to his backstage fight against Leon “Rocky” Edwards. The term is used to mean to the series of meals available in food chains like KFC in the United States. Masvidal meant that he used three punches and then added something additional to Edwards during the fight.

In the case of Jorge Masvidal, back then, he had scored three KO/TKO victories over Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. Then his backstage incident with Edwards helped to increase his stardom in the UFC.

Why did Masvidal hit Leon Edwards?

Jorge Masvidal hit Leon Edwards because he did not like being interrupted and challenged during his interview. In an interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA, he stated that Edwards’ approach threatened him and his well-being. He walked towards Edwards with his hands behind to ensure that he doesn’t want to cause a problem. Nevertheless, he further emphasized that Edwards shoudn’t have put his hands up and approached him as if wanting to punch him. Resultantly, “Gamebred” landed the three piece and a soda on “Rocky” and then moved out of the area.
