Justin Ray Gaethje is an American professional MMA fighter who competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He previously held the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship and is currently ranked No. 3 in the UFC lightweight rankings as of March 2025.

Gaethje was born in Safford, Arizona, and began his wrestling journey at the young age of four. He achieved notable success as a wrestler at Safford High School, winning the Arizona state championship twice. During his time at the University of Northern Colorado, Gaethje further established himself as an accomplished athlete, earning the distinction of an NCAA Division I All-American. While still in college, Gaethje ventured into amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) and transitioned to the professional circuit in 2011. Gaethje became the lightweight champion after joining the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) in 2013. Gaethje successfully defended his WSOF belt on five occasions before deciding to join the UFC in 2017, relinquishing his WSOF title in the process.
