In 2011, Burns's skills reached their peak when he emerged as the gold medalist in the World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships.

In 2015, Burns claimed the bronze medal at the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling Championships (ADCC). In the main event of “Who's Number One” on April 30, 2021, Burns earned a unanimous decision victory over Rafael Lovato Jr. However, Burns' winning streak was halted on November 6, 2021, when he was caught in a rear-naked choke by Lucas Barbosa and forced to submit in the main event of BJJ Stars 7.
