Leigh Wood squared off against former two-time world featherweight champion and fellow countryman Josh Warrington. This fight transpired on October 7, 2023, at Utilita Arena Sheffield in Sheffield, England.

After defeating Mauricio Lara in May of 2023, Leigh Wood was successful in his first title defense as the two-time WBA featherweight champion by defeating Warrington in the 7th round of the fight via TKO.

According to the contract for this fight, Wood should face the #1 ranked featherweight contender, Otabek Kholmatov, within 120 days after the fight.

Leigh Wood Last Fight

Leigh Wood's last fight occurred on May 27, 2023, when he faced Mauricio Lara in a much-awaited rematch. In this duel, Wood managed to reclaim the WBA featherweight championship with a hard-fought decision victory over Lara. It was a redemption fight for Wood, as he had suffered a knockout loss to Lara just 98 days earlier in his hometown of Nottingham.

Before the fight, Lara encountered several challenges during the weigh-in. Due to Wood missing the midweek check-weight, the British Boxing Board of Control deemed it unsafe for Lara to reach the championship weight of 126lbs. Lara ended up weighing in at 129.8 lbs and was forced to forfeit his title, making it impossible for him to regain it even with a victory as a consequence. The fight was given the green flag after both camps agreed to a rehydration limit for Lara on the morning of the fight.

The weight cut appeared to have an impact on Lara's performance as he got off to a slow start and was knocked down in the second round. Despite sustaining a cut before the halfway mark, Wood demonstrated exceptional determination and heart, ultimately securing a unanimous decision victory with judges' scores of 118-109, 118-109, and 116-111.
