A welterweight competitor in the organization, Buckley became a professional competitor on September 13, 2014. He was a part of multiple fight promotions on the professional circuit before joining the UFC.

Joaquin Buckley made his first appearance in the UFC on August 8, 2020, at UFC Fight Night: Lewis Oleinik, and was welcomed to the octagon by Kevin Holland. He was dispatched by Holland in the third round via TKO and lost his debut fight in the promotion only to recover in later matches.
