Callum John Smith is a professional boxer from England who once held the super-middleweight titles from the World Boxing Association (WBA) (Super version) and the Ring magazine. Callum Smith once attempted to secure a spot as Great Britain Boxing's light-heavyweight representative at the 2012 London Olympics, but that ended in dismay.

Despite a controversial loss to Azerbaijan's Vatan Huseynli in the Olympic Qualification Tournament, Smith's chance for qualification relied on Huseynli, who lost in the next round. AIBA chose to offer an invitation to compete to Smith but ultimately decided to grant it to Boško Drašković, despite Smith having previously defeated Drašković. In a cruel turn of events, Drašković was out in the Olympics' first round. Smith's hopes were crushed, highlighting the unpredictable nature of Olympic boxing qualification.

So far in his professional career, Smith has compiled a stellar record of 29 wins to 1 loss in 30 fights (29-1-0). His only defeat came at the hands of Canelo Alvarez on December 19, 2020.

Callum Smith vs. Canelo Alvarez

Callum Smith squared off against boxing great Canelo Alvarez on December 19, 2020. The Mexican boxer claimed a unanimous decision victory (119-109, 119-109, 117-111), seizing the WBA (Super), The Ring, and WBC super middleweight titles at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Alvarez, with a record of 54-1-2 and 36 KOs at the time, showcased his superiority from the opening round, consistently landing powerful shots and demonstrating excellent defensive skills. Despite Smith's resilience, Alvarez's precision and relentless pursuit overwhelmed him. Alvarez expressed his desire for unification, emphasizing his quest for all the belts in the 168-pound division. The victory marked Alvarez as the unified world super middleweight champion and the first and only loss to date in Callum Smith’s resume.
