In his next fight, Chris Gutierrez was up against Aaron Phillips at World Fighting Championships 35 on February 28, 2015, for the WFC bantamweight title. Guiterrez won the bout via third-round TKO (retirement) and won the championship. He eventually made his way into the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2018.

In his debut showdown for the promotion, Gutierrez faced Raoni Barcelos at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters Finale on November 30, 2018.
