Katie Taylor is an Irish professional boxer who is currently the undisputed lightweight champion. She was born in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, on July 2, 1986. Her father, a former Irish senior light heavyweight champion, became her full-time boxing coach. Her sister Sarah and brothers Lee and Peter, the latter a mathematics professor, complete the family. Bridget, Katie's mother, also immersed herself in boxing, becoming one of Ireland's earliest female referees and judges.

Katie Taylor entered the professional boxing scene on November 26, 2016, achieving a third-round technical knockout (TKO) at London's Wembley Arena in her debut match.

In December 2018, Katie Taylor accused Delfine Persoon of rejecting a substantial offer for their bout. The two eventually agreed to a lightweight title unification fight in June 2019 at Madison Square Garden. The match was intense, with Persoon's relentless pressure causing Taylor difficulties. Controversy arose over Taylor's majority decision victory, with some, including media outlets and boxers, feeling Persoon deserved the win.

Despite criticism, this win meant that Taylor became the first undisputed female lightweight champion. The bout sparked debate over the judges' decision, with opinions divided on whether Persoon had done enough to secure victory.

As of now, Katie Taylor holds a record of 22 wins and 1 loss (22-1-0), with her only defeat coming against Chantelle Cameron. Taylor is looking to avenge her loss in her rematch against Chantelle Cameron, scheduled for November 25, 2023.
