Mike Perry once recounted a story about him being saved by a fellow UFC fighter. 'Platinum' suggested that he almost hanged himself to death in front of his wife but had a fortuitous escape thanks to his fellow fighter.

Perry faced and defeated Alex Oliveira via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Hermansson in April 2019. The event was headlined by Brazil's Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza, who lost to Jack Hermansson via unanimous decision.

Speaking to Andrew Whitelaw in April 2019, Perry narrated a scary ordeal, wherein he almost hanged himself on a rubber workout band on a pull-up bar at his gym and Souza saved him. He asserted that he loves Souza, deeming him his "hero." Perry indicated that Danielle Nickerson, his then-wife, was also present, as were Souza, an ESPN filming crew, and others.

Mike Perry stated that he tried to get a neck workout and improve his choke resistance by putting his neck on the band and flexing, but he passed out and Nickerson believed he was joking.

The next thing he remembered was an individual named Alan, from the UFC, pouring water on, slapping, and shaking him. Perry was later notified that Souza noticed him and immediately left his workout and saved him. Revisiting the incident that transpired before the aforementioned UFC Fight Night card, 'Platinum' explained:

"I grabbed this thing. And in two seconds, I passed out. And I swing. And she hears a bang. And then she looks up. And she's like, 'Mike, stop playing.' And I hit my face on the metal bar of the pull-up bar. And I'm passed out. I'm still hanging on this thing. I'm hanging myself. And 'Jacare' seen it. And he was over there quick. And he pulls me out of the thing. And then they're like, waking me up."

Perry noted that a pregnant woman, supposedly Alan's wife, was crying because she felt he was depressed and attempted to hang himself. 'Platinum' reassured her it was an accident:

"Then I come to, and I'm like, 'Oh, man! It was a bad joke. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare everybody' ... So 'Jacare' literally saved my life, man."

Mike Perry's potential BKFC plans in 2025

Mike Perry departed the UFC in late 2021 and has extensively competed in the sport of bare-knuckle boxing under the BKFC banner.

On The Ariel Helwani Show, BKFC president Dave Feldman recently indicated that he's working on making a potential fight between Perry and ex-UFC welterweight kingpin Robbie Lawler in the BKFC. Alternatively, the 33-year-old could partake in the BKFC's $25 million tournament in 2025.

“We’re working on it, we’re working on it,” BKFC founder David Feldman stated when asked about Mike Perry vs. Robbie Lawler. “Yeah, [Robbie wants to do it]. We’re working out a deal with the UFC. That’s a sick fight right? I’ll know [if it’s going to happen] in two weeks, and if it doesn’t happen then, it will be someone else [against Perry] then possibly him.”
“A lot of people are calling out Mike Perry now. This is actually the good thing about the Jake Paul fight, everyone wants to fight him. They were scared to death of him… We’re talking to [Darren Till], too," he added.
