Conor McGregor and Jeremy Stephens have long been at loggerheads. Nevertheless, their rivalry hasn't culminated in a physical fight as of yet. That said, Stephens once targeted one of McGregor's parents, his mother, to jibe at the combat sports megastar.
Back in September 2016, then-UFC featherweight champion McGregor was set to face then-UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 (November 2016). During the UFC 205 press conference, McGregor was questioned about which fighter, from the several champions and grizzled veterans he saw onstage with him, would give him the hardest fight. Stephens chimed in by stating:
"Right here. Right here. The hardest-hitting 145-pounder, the real hardest-hitting 145'er right here. This guy TKO's people. When I knock people out, they don't f**king move."
In response, McGregor delivered what became one of his most iconic one-liners:

"Who the f**k is that guy? Who the f**k is that?"
Multiple fighters burst into laughter onstage, as did the audience in attendance. Stephens hit back at the Irishman by saying:
"You know damn well who I am."
Regardless, McGregor added:
"Who the f**k is that? Oh my God. I don't know."
Over the years, many socio-political analysts have asserted that the term 'leprechaun' -- which implies a supernatural entity in Irish folklore -- is sometimes used as a derogatory epithet against Irish persons. In this context, Stephens labeled McGregor a "leprechaun," which some argued had discriminatory undertones.
Regardless, McGregor seemed unfazed and continued lambasting the American:
"Oh, good one. When I take that guy's [Eddie Alvarez's] belt, I'm looking around. I don't know what anyone else has for me around here. I might have to jump up and f**king drag Floyd Mayweather out of bed, see where the f**k he's at."

McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez and won the lightweight belt at UFC 205. McGregor also faced boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their high-profile 'money fight' in August 2017. It marked McGregor's professional boxing debut, which he lost via 10th-round TKO. However, 'The Notorious' was praised for his valiance in his maiden boxing match against one of the greatest pugilists ever.
Meanwhile, Stephens faced considerable trolling in the combat sports community, with many referring to him as 'Who the f**k is that guy?' In September 2017, Stephens tweeted a photograph of himself alongside Conor's mother, Margaret McGregor, with a six-word remark:

Conor McGregor teases potential BKFC fight against Jeremy Stephens
Although Conor McGregor and Jeremy Stephens have met in person and engaged in some banter, it's been quite cordial. Stephens has competed in the BKFC bare-knuckle boxing organization, which McGregor became the co-owner of in 2024.
Stephens is fresh off a third-round TKO victory against Eddie Alvarez at BKFC KnuckleMania V, whom he beat on Jan. 25, 2025. 'Lil Heathen' then engaged in an intense, albeit respectful, face-off with McGregor inside the BKFC ring. The Irishman and Stephens both expressed interest in fighting each other under the BKFC banner.
Furthermore, McGregor recently indicated that his rumored boxing match against Logan Paul in India might not materialize, as the UFC wasn't interested in it. That said, he's open to such influencer boxing matches. Also, despite currently being under contract with the UFC, he signaled that could make an impromptu BKFC debut someday.
