Joe Rogan and Khalil Rountree Jr. once discussed Conor McGregor's trash talking prowess, highlighting how it fueled his superstardom. They appeared to agree that McGregor had a penchant for trash talk right from his career's early stages.

On episode 64 of the JRE MMA Show in April 2019, Rogan hosted Rountree Jr. The two discussed McGregor's brash and outspoken approach to things, and recalled a number of times the Irishman had gone on the offensive against his opponents.

When asked if he'd experienced something similar, Rountree Jr. cited his feud against Paul Craig. That said, the two ultimately ended up burying the hatchet. At that point, Rogan stated:

"Conor is an amazing fighter, and his fighting skill is what's made him such an international superstar. But he also talks some mad sh**, and that helped him too. Because he was so good at it, it was funny. He would say funny, mean, insulting sh**. It was f**king great."

Rountree Jr. seemingly concurred, but indicated that he doesn't want to rise by adopting a strategy of that ilk. Apparently, he doesn't like people talking trash to him, so he doesn't talk trash against others unless there's a personal feud.

Reiterating that McGregor's approach was in stark contrast to his, 'The War Horse' said:

"But I think what people forget, Joe, is that, like, that's always been Conor. Even when you go and look at the interviews from before he was in the UFC, and he was just like, 'I'm going to make a bunch of money, and I'm going to be all this, and ...' So he created that for himself. And yeah, he made a bunch of money from talking trash because he always had a plan that that's what he was gonna do."

When Joe Rogan heaped praise on Conor McGregor for his ruthless trash talk

Back in Dec. 2022, Joe Rogan hosted American screenwriter and journalist Mark Boal on the JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) podcast. Rogan explained to Boal how Conor McGregor's relentless and merciless trash talk helped him defeat the legendary Jose Aldo.

The MMA personality implied that with the iconic 13-second KO victory over Aldo, McGregor proved to be one of the rare humans who can back up their trash talk while facing the stress of having millions of people watching him:

"To be a person that can do that under that kind of pressure, that's an extraordinary human being."

Joe Rogan still serves as a UFC color commentator, apart from also thriving as a podcast mogul with his JRE brand. Meanwhile, Khalil Rountree Jr. is scheduled to face UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira for the title at UFC 307 (Oct. 5, 2024).
