Considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been a phenomenal athlete in and out of the ring. Even though Mayweather Jr.’s personal life has had enough controversies, his work ethic and athleticism have been praised throughout his career. From featherweight to light middleweight, the 47-year-old boxer has had his hands on all the championships in these four divisions.

Retiring from professional boxing in 2016, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been competing in numerous exhibition bouts till now. For his last outing, Mayweather Jr. faced the former mixed martial artist turned boxer John Gotti III on June 11, 2023, at the FLA Live Arena, Sunrise, Florida, U.S. After six rounds, the fight was stopped as a result of excessive trash talking and crowd interventions. Hoverer, both boxers are set to square off against each other once again on August 24, 2024, at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigans, United States, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is an American citizen. Like most boxers born in the late 1970s and early 80’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. did not have a proper upbringing in a decent neighbourhood. His mother was an addict and his father (Mayweather Sr.) had to sell drugs to provide for the family. His grandmother was also a great support for him during his early days.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was born into a family of boxers, and as per the 47-year-old boxer, his father used to indulge with him only regarding the sport. Mayweather Sr. used to take him for the boxing classes and only let him focus on getting better at the sport and nothing else.

As mentioned earlier, his grandmother had been a constant support during his early days in New Jersey. His grandmother would ask him to keep on boxing and not focus on anything else.

Even though Floyd Mayweather Jr. has roots in Jamaica, he always likes to be represented as an American rather than an African-American. While talking to Stephen A Smith on ESPN before his boxing match against Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather stated that he was born on American soil and represents the American dream.

He also stated that he loves his motherland, but rather than being distinguished as an African American, the boxer likes to be called an American.
