Jose Aldo

José Aldo da Silva Oliveira Júnior, also known as José Aldo, is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He previously competed at Featherweight and was the fourth and final WEC Featherweight Champion. He became the inaugural UFC Featherweight Champion after the UFC and WEC merged.

Aldo is widely recognized as one of the best mixed martial artists of all time, as well as one of the finest featherweights ever, having defended his UFC featherweight championship belt seven times. After losing his first MMA bout in November 2005, Aldo stayed undefeated for more than a decade, winning 18 consecutive fights until losing to Conor McGregor at UFC 194 in December 2015. He was selected Sherdog's 2009 Fighter of the Year. In Sherdog's April 2017 pound-for-pound ranking, Aldo was dubbed "the greatest featherweight in mixed martial arts history." Throughout his adolescence, he was passionate about football and aspired to become a professional. His father encouraged him to pursue his goals. But Aldo became weary of being beaten up in street fights and began training Capoeira to learn how to better defend himself in brawls.

Jose Aldo's face scar

Beyond Jose Aldo's octagon accomplishments, much attention has been paid to how his childhood transformed him into the athlete he is today. Fans have constantly wondered what was behind the huge scar on his left cheek. Aldo claims it stemmed from an incident involving his elder sister, Josilene, who picked up his crib and flung it at her younger sister, Rosilene. As a result, Jose, then a one-year-old, fell face-first into a blazing BBQ. He has had the scar ever since.

"They were playing around and threw me in there," he told the Daily Star in 2009. "It was hot." I was a small infant. They were tiny children. Another time, my younger sister broke my head. "I have a variety of stories."
