To keep his legacy alive, Cortez decided to pursue a career in mixed martial arts. Before turning professional in 2017, Cortez had an undefeated amateur record of 6-0. Maintaining an almost unblemished MMA record of 11 wins and 1 loss (11-1-0), Cortez's fighting style can be described as high-paced striking and grappling, with most of her victories coming via decisions. In her UFC career, Cortez has faced several formidable opponents, including a victory over Melissa Gatto at UFC 274 in May 2022. Her most recent fight was against Jasmine Jasudavicius in September 2023, where she secured a unanimous decision win. Currently, the Arizona native is in preparation for her upcoming bout against Rose Namajunas at UFC on ESPN 59 on July 13, 2024.
