In case you didn’t know…
Romero is coming off an emphatic win over Luke Rockhold, knocking him out in the third round.
He could have won the interim title in the Perth main event but as he missed weight by a pound and was not eligible to win the interim middleweight title even if he had won.
Romero replaced Whittaker who was originally going to face off against Rockhold but had to pull out of the fight due to a series of injuries, staph infection, and chickenpox.
His last bout was against Romero which he won by decision. UFC on Thursday confirmed the rematch from their social media handles.
The heart of the matter
After the Rockhold fight, Romero was given a shot at the Title against Whittaker.
This is a great matchup, as Romero is coming off a great win and Whittaker who is now healthy after his injuries and is ready to go at it again.
Both fighters are excellent grapplers and we'll have to wait who will take home the belt this time.
What’s next?
This fight is going to be one great spectacle. Both these fighters have proved themselves in one of the most stacked divisions in the UFC.
Whittaker deserves to be the champion as he has been through some wars and defeated fighters like Jacare, Brunson and Romero.
Romero, on the other hand, became the top contender after impressive wins over Weidman, Jacare and Rockhold. This fight will seal the deal and we'll surely know who'll be the king of the middleweight division.
