Tracy Cortez, the current #11 ranked women’s flyweight contender in the UFC, hails from the city of Phoenix, Arizona. Cortez made her first walk to the UFC octagon against Vanessa Melo in 2019 and won the bout by a unanimous decision. Cortez faced a number of challenges in her childhood, including the loss of her elder brother Jose, who had dreams of competing in the UFC. To honor her brother’s wishes, Cortez made up her mind to pursue and have a successful career in mixed martial arts. Before turning professional in 2017, Cortez held an undefeated amateur record of 6 wins with no losses. She currently trains at Fight Ready MMA in Scottsdale, Arizona, under the guidance of coach Angel Cejudo, brother of Henry Cejudo.

Maintaining an almost undefeated MMA record of 11 wins and 1 loss (11-1-0), Cortez's fighting style can be characterized by her high-octane striking and grappling, with most of her wins coming via decisions. In her UFC tenure, Cortez has faced several top contenders, including a win over Melissa Gatto at UFC 274 in May 2022. Her most recent bout was against Jasmine Jasudavicius in September 2023, where she was declared the winner by unanimous decision. Currently, the Arizona native is gearing up for her upcoming bout against Rose ‘Thug’ Namajunas at UFC on ESPN 59 on July 13, 2024. Cortez agreed to this fight on short notice to replace #4 ranked flyweight fighter, Maycee Barber, who pulled out from the fight for some undisclosed health concerns.
