Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski is currently one of the most anticipated and enthralling active fighters in the promotion. With his dominance over the UFC featherweight division, Volkanovski has only been defeated once in the featherweight division. His only four losses came from lightweight bouts against the champion Islam Makhachev, a featherweight title clash against Ilia Topuria, and a welterweight bout during his early professional career.

Recently, Volkanovski showed his sportsmanship level by taking up a rematch fight against Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title, and that too within a short span of eleven days. By doing so, the Australian has been able to increase his respect among fans. He faced Islam Makhachev in Abu Dhabi on October 21, 2023, for the lightweight championship.

Alexander Volkanovski Last Fight

In his last fight, Alexander Volkanovski squared off against Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 for the UFC Featherweight championship. The fight didn't go according to Volkanovski's plans, as Topuria shockingly dispatched him in the second round by shutting his lights off with the help of a vicious right hand the second round.

Alexander Volkanovski vs Islam Makhachev 2

As Alexander Volkanovski moved up a weight class and fought the UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 294, fans expected fireworks inside the octagon as both fighters were pitching for an early finish. However, Volkanovski, right after walking inside the octagon, seemed to have been venturing into unknown waters. Their previous encounter at UFC 284 was a neck-to-neck, well-composed fight; however, Makhachev took matters personally in their second meeting and ended up delivering a shocking knockout of the featherweight champion in the first round of the fight.

Alexander Volkanovski has never been knocked out cold in such a fashion in his over a decade-old professional mixed martial arts career. The loss brought curtains on the friendly rivalry between the fighters as Islam Makhachev now prepares to defend his title against a new opponent, whereas Volkanovski went on to lose once again via KO against Ilia Topuria at UFC 298.
