Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson is heading into the biggest fight of his life, as he will challenge welterweight champ Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley, for his first shot at UFC gold. Thompson participated in a UFC 205 conference call and was asked his thoughts on if he believes legendary 170-pound fighter, Georges St-Pierre, deserved an immediate title shot upon coming out of retirement (courtesy of MMA Fighting):
“I’m right there with you, man. He is definitely one of the best guys who ever stepped into the octagon at welterweight. I have no idea of what’s going on, where he’s at in negotiations, if he’s coming back or what. He’s one of the reasons I got into the sport in the first place. I was training with him, helping with his fights, and that’s why I started MMA. Yeah man, give him that title shot.”
St-Pierre has not seen Octagon action, since his controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks, in their main event clash at UFC 167, in November of 2013. Many MMA fans believed that the Canadian phenom had finally be dethroned by Hendricks, who put on quite the performance against ‘GSP’.

However, it was not to be, as St-Pierre was given the winning nod by two of the three judges.
Interestingly enough, ‘Wonderboy’ finished Hendricks in just one round, at their bout in February earlier this year, something that St-Pierre was unable to accomplish; during his time shared in the Octagon with the Oklahoman.
If St-Pierre ever does decide to make his highly anticipated return to the UFC Octagon, a match up with the highly skilled striker in Thompson is certainly on the top of many fans’ wish lists.
