Belal Muhammad asks Kamaru Usman to step down and let him fight Leon Edwards

Belal Muhammad has urged Kamaru Usman to step aside and let him face Leon Edwards for the welterweight title next, insisting that the former champion shouldn't be gifted an instant rematch.

'Remember the Name' has been flying under the radar in the welterweight division, but has put together an incredibly impressive resume over the past few years. His grapple-heavy style has improved with each fight, and he even managed to earn a huge TKO victory over the previously undefeated Sean Brady.

In a video directed at Kamaru Usman, Belal Muhammad demanded that he be given the next shot at the title. Muhammad compared 'The Nigerian Nightmare's' instant rematch talks with those who've failed to win the SuperBowl, saying:

"There's no rematches once you lose the SuperBowl. You lose the SuperBowl, you lost the SuperBowl, that's it. If you lost on a hail mary pass, that's it, you're going to have to wait until the next year. You don't get a, 'Ahh, man. That was a lucky pass.' Nah, you lost, you don't get the rematch right away. You've got to go through a whole other season to try and get back there again. So, Usman, sit down a little bit, relax, heal up, [and] let me fight Leon."

In a shot that shook the world, Leon Edwards did the impossible and beat the seemingly unbeatable Kamaru Usman with a devastating head kick to capture the welterweight title earlier this year.

Although nothing has been made official, it seems the UFC wants 'Rocky' to make his first defense of his championship in England in an instant rematch with the former pound-for-pound #1 fighter in the world.

Should Belal Muhammad be given the next title shot over Kamaru Usman?

As previously mentioned, Belal Muhammad has been a sensation in recent years and has a backstory with the champion following the illegal eye poke that ended their 2021 bout.

While he would be a great candidate, having won each of his last nine fights. Excluding the no-contest with Leon Edwards, it's arguably impossible not to give Kamaru Usman his chance at vengeance.

The star was the welterweight king for over three years and was yet to suffer a defeat under the UFC banner. This would mean he's highly likely to be the champion's next fight.
