Conor McGregor once explained why he deletes tweets, sometimes doing so in a lightning-fast fashion. McGregor's explanation came after backlash from certain sections of the socio-political realm over his statements on the Irish government's approach toward COVID-19-induced lockdowns.
Back in November 2021, McGregor criticized Irish political leader Leo Varadkar and other politicians for their approach toward the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. The Fine Gael party's Varadkar consistently criticized Ireland's unvaccinated for worsening the pandemic's effects.
In a series of tweets, McGregor suggested that Varadkar wrongfully blamed the unvaccinated instead of admitting the Irish government's supposed unpreparedness. An excerpt from one of McGregor's tweets from Nov. 16, 2021, read:
"There is just no backing from me here anymore. We will rise!"

Conor McGregor later deleted the tweets critical of the Irish government. Thereafter, netizen and political commentator Robert Burke posted screenshots of McGregor's tweets and jibed at him for deleting them.
McGregor fired back at Robert Burke, per a Bloody Elbow report, jabbing at Burke's work as a political commentator. Also, The Mirror recently revisited McGregor's explanation about why he swiftly deletes some of his tweets.
Responding to Burke in November 2021, McGregor had emphasized that he doesn't like keeping negative content on his social media pages, which is why he deletes some tweets:
"Hey, d*** breath, you must be new here. I will always say what I need to say, it gets reported/spread, then I remove from my page. It's done and out. I do not like to keep negativity on my channels. Ever. You do zero to help anything or anyone in any situation. So shut up."
"My point stands. I am ashamed of those in government! Leo comment, disgraceful. I'm worried for our neglected hospitals and for our people. It is an abomination what is happening! It hurts me beyond belief. If you think I enjoy saying these things and want to keep them, I do not. Now do me a favor since you do absolutely f*** all else, and f*** off with your 'commentary,'" he added.
Conor McGregor derided Burke, alleging that he'd previously made "sly remarks." Leo Varadkar later spoke to CNN (on Nov. 18, 2021) and reaffirmed that five percent of Ireland's unvaccinated "are causing the trouble." In the ensuing years, McGregor again criticized former two-time Irish Prime Minister, Varadkar, over matters like immigration and other issues.
UFC champion addressed Conor McGregor's deleting his tweets
UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria has often indicated how he went from admiring to disliking ex-UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor. During an interview in 2024, Shakiel Mahjouri asked Topuria why he feels McGregor deletes his tweets. He replied:
"Because he's a pu**y. He's like a small kid. He's like a kid. I insult you. I write some sh** on social media, and then I delete it. Well, go f**k yourself."

In December 2024, Conor McGregor shut down the rumors regarding a possible MMA showdown against Ilia Topuria. 'The Notorious' asserted that he could face Logan Paul in an exhibition boxing bout organized by the Ambani Family in India in 2025.
Presently, it's believed that McGregor could box Logan or his younger brother Jake Paul in India this year, but neither matchup has been officially announced yet.
