The Destiny 2 Exotic Class Item has been one of the hottest topics in the community ever since its release. Starting with Dual Destiny's mandatory two-player requirement to the current duplicate perk drops, Bungie can't find the perfect middle ground to satisfy fans. While the mission itself has been regarded as the game's greatest Exotic mission, running it 50 times per character weekly doesn't make sense.

Hence, with its July 25 TWID blog post, Bungie addressed the issue and listed a bunch of changes that will be monitored for the next few months. There has been no word from the company regarding duplicate protection. However, it did tune the drop rate in the Pale Heart and added a guaranteed drop from weekly challenges for all three characters.

All these changes are scheduled for early August 2024.

Exotic Class Item drop changes announced for the August update in Destiny 2

To get a Destiny 2 Exotic Class Item for a specific class, players had to run the Dual Destiny mission on that class at first. This was followed by opening Pale Heart chests to get a chance at an Exotic Class Item drop. The chests could have been anything, from specific tiers of Overthrow chests and Darkness-corrupted ones to simple loot chests.

With the early Destiny 2 August 2024 update, Bungie will be implementing the following changes:

  • Increased chances of drops from Overthrow chests. Typically, a higher tier of Overthrow chest will have a higher chance.
  • Any of the increased chance gained from the Overthrow chests will be stored upon not getting an Exotic Class Item from Overthrow and instead can be carried over to Pale Heart Lost Sectors and Co-op missions.
  • A weekly challenge is being added to the Dual Destiny mission, completing which will drop an additional Exotic Class Item of the equipped class at the time. This can be done each week in all three characters. Hence, players now have six guaranteed Exotic Class Item drops across all three characters, with two in each class.

Bungie has confirmed that any feedback from players has been acknowledged, especially the desire to get Exotic Class Items from more Pale Heart activities. Hence, it is safe to assume that these changes aren't the last of what is coming for Exotic Class Items in Destiny 2.
