Necromancer is one of Diablo 4’s best classes, and if you want to try a powerful leveling build, we’re here to help. There are several ways to do it, and there’s really no wrong way. However, we’re fond of easy, overpowered options. That means it’s time to play a Sever/Minion build. It’s powered by darkness and corpses. What’s not to like? It’s an amazingly easy build and has tons of minions to do all the fighting for you, alongside plenty of AOE damage and debuffs.
Whether at the endgame or leveling, Necromancer is one of the best in Diablo 4 Season 6, so we’re standing behind this build as the best one to pick. Of course, you can play the class however you’d like, but this is our preferred method.

How to play Minion Necromancer leveling build in Diablo 4 Season 6
If you’re going to play any Necromancer leveling build in Diablo 4 Season 6, it should be Sever. It’s a minion/Sever build that relies heavily on your army of the dead to do all the heavy lifting for you. It’s easy, takes almost no effort, doesn’t rely on gear much, and works just fine up until the lower levels of Torment. There are better endgame builds, though, like Bone Spirit Wave.
While this build can get kind of boring, I still like it. It’s far more relaxing and is less about spamming buttons. This build uses Reap early on alongside Sever, but you’ll drop Reap pretty quickly.
You also run Corpse Explosion for AOE damage, Decrepify and Iron Maiden for more damage/Essence restoration, and, of course, Army of the Dead for more skeletons. You’ll also, naturally, run Raise Skeleton. Below is the complete list of skills you should run in this build. You could pick some of these in a different order, but this is the route I took.
I tend to open with Decrepify, drop Sever, use Iron Maiden to restore Essence, and then Corpse Explosion/Sever as necessary. It's really a mindless build.
For your Book of the Dead, you’re picking Reapers (Option #2), Shadow Mages (Option #2), and Bone Golem (Sacrificed). This way, you get more corpses, more shadow bolts, and more critical hits.
Which Mercenary is the right pick for Diablo 4’s Necromancer?
When it comes to Mercenaries, the best one for this Necromancer leveling build in Diablo 4 is Varyana. She’s aggressive and powerful—just what we want in this build.
That said, you’ll want to take the following skills:
- Massacre
- Shockwave
- Reprisal
- Earth Breaker
- Rampage
As far as your Reinforcements go, pick Raheir, and utilize his Bastion ability. I tend to link it to Army of the Dead, so we get that protective barrier/unstoppable while summoning our flood of minions.
Ideal Legendary Aspects and gear to consider
Below is a list of the most important Legendary Aspects that you want to get/level up for your Necromancer leveling build. Aspect of Reanimation, Aphotic Aspect, Aspect of the Damned, Fastblood Aspect, and Unyielding Aspect are the ones I focus on the most.
As mentioned earlier, this build doesn’t really require specific gear, so if you can get a Ring of the Sacrilegious Soul, do equip it. It’s arguably the best piece of gear you’re going to get. Nothing can beat getting free, automatic casts of important skills.
- Aphotic Aspect
- Unyielding Commander’s Aspect
- Aspect of Reanimation
- Aspect of the Damned
- Fastblood Aspect
- Aspect of Frenzied Dead
- Reaping Lotus’ Aspect
- Aspect of Disobedience
- Aspect of Hardened Bones
- Aspect of Occult Dominion
