How to farm Pure Energy Residue in The First Descendant

Pure Energy Residue is the most 'premium' variant of this resource in The First Descendant. Oddly enough, it's not that crucial to farm when it comes to the amount you'll need. While the other types are used in crafting Crystallization Catalysts, Pure Energy Residue is only used in farming three Descendant components and one Ultimate Weapon (so far).

At the time of writing, you'll need less than 200 Pure Energy Residue in The First Descendant to craft everything where it's required. In this guide, we'll discuss the best ways of farming the resource.

Best way to farm Pure Energy Residue in The First Descendant

The only guaranteed drop source of Pure Energy Residue in The First Descendant is Encrypted Vaults in the Fortress region. In particular, Fallen Ark has five of these vaults near the Tactical Transporter, and you can open all of them in a short period of time.

Head south from the Fallen Ark Tactical Transporter. When you see a giant chain fence, drop down to the lower floor of the shipyard, and there will be a cave. The cave is near the Frozen Shipyard battlefield mission, towards its southwest. This will require an Ultra-Precision Code Breaker (Analyzer in Normal mode), and drop about 10 Pure Energy Residue on average.

Exit that cave and go to the warehouse entrance (tall building towards the left) opposite the exit. Turn towards your left once inside this building, and you'll find another lower-tier Encrypted Vault that opens with a regular (White) Code Breaker/Analyzer.

If you're looking for more, you can set up a dedicated Enzo squad and loot three more Encrypted Vaults across Fallen Ark. Not all of them might spawn at the same time, so you're looking at something from 35-45 Pure Energy Residues per run in this method.

What if I don't have Code Breakers or Analyzers?

If you don't want to crack Encrypted Vaults, the only other method of getting Pure Energy Residue in The First Descendant is mobbing in the various Fortress missions. There are no Elite monsters that have the resource in their loot pool, so you'll have to rely on a very low drop chance from regular monsters.
