Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail brought back the Role Quest system, which is a replacement for the Job Quests players took on during A Realm Reborn. In previous expansions, these were a requirement to complete all of the Main Story Quests but were made optional in the Endwalker expansion. Role Quests did grant rewards and were used for Battle Mentor qualifications. At this time, it’s unknown if these will be a requirement in Dawntrail.
However, we do know when they unlock, and the general storyline they appear to follow. As the expansion goes on, and we level more classes, we’ll update a list of all of the Role Quests in Final Fantasy 14, for each role.
Note: This article contains minor spoilers for Role Quests and screenshots of cutscenes from this section of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail.
When to unlock Role Quests in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail
Role Quests unlock in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail relatively early. It’s likely you’ll find them during your time in the Early Access period. They are given to you as an option, but you aren’t required to do them if you don’t want to at that time. This takes place at Level 92 before you return to Earthenshire to complete The Feat of Pots. Before you leave Tural, Br’uk Evu will ask for your help, and offer up a side quest, Uncouth Customers.
In this, he’ll reveal a group of strange customers calling themselves “Villains.” Known as the Passage of the Unbound, they’re a group of adventurers seeking to claim a series of powerful objects. Each one corresponds to a different role quest chain. For example, if you’ve unlocked and leveled Viper in the game, you’d tackle the Melee DPS Role Quest for Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail.
All known Role Quests and their level requirement
Starting at level 90, you’ll periodically pick up a new Role Quest for each combat archetype in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail. In our case, we started with a White Mage and completed all of those as we went along.
The pacing will be the same, regardless of which class you play as. These quests are relatively simple, and the final one will always culminate in a boss battle that tests your knowledge of the role you’re using (Tank, Healer, Ranged Magic, Ranged Physical, Melee Physical). For example, the final battle for the Healer Role Quest will require you to keep up with the use of the Esuna spell, so you can remove the poison the boss constantly inflicts on you and your ally.
You’ll unlock one of these Role Quests every two levels: 90, 92, 94, 96, 98, and 100. You pick up the initial quests in Tuliyollal (12.5, 14.8), though they will take you to other locations. Below, you can find all of the Role Quests in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail, for each role.
