A new Destiny 2 player recently published a post on Reddit where they listed a few things they had to go through after launching the game, with the caption "I am Utterly Lost." The New Light experience is known for being lackluster when it comes to introducing a player to the chronological events, seasonal stories, and a lot more.

Reddit user u/DirtierDan117 resurfaced this issue with their post on Reddit which currently sits with approximately 2000 Upvotes. The post stated:

"I tried to follow the quests as they are given to me, but then I immediately got thrust into The Pale Heart, talking to characters I never met or know anything about. Did I miss something? Is this game kind of just not new player friendly? I am very lost."

Many veterans chipped in, helping the user out while breaking down the events that led to The Final Shape. However, this points to a big flaw in the game's storytelling department, which has been a sticking issue for what seems like an eternity.

Destiny 2 storytelling flaws resurface in the community

u/DirtierDan117's post highlights everything that a new player can face after booting up Destiny 2. Even after playing the first two years of the game, the things listed can easily confuse a player who wants to follow the story in chronological order. Some of the issues listed by the Reddit user are as follows:

  • The beginning parts of the New Light mission are similar to that of Destiny 1
  • A huge time skip with no explanations
  • Cabal and Fallen living in the Tower and Last City with no lore explanation
  • No explanation of the order of DLC stories
  • No way of accessing seasonal story that plays a vital part in the world
  • Anyone starting with The Final Shape will be forced into the first campaign mission, followed by Pale Heart

Many veterans in the thread wanted Bungie to start working on the New Light experience that creates a bridge between Year 2 or 3, up to The Final Shape. As for seasonal stories, a simple access node for a summarized version of the missions should work as well.

The only way to look at past events via the in-game method is through "Timeline" in Destinations. Here, each expansions are placed in their release order, alongside the seasons associated with them.

However, it doesn't seem likely that most new players entering Destiny 2 will take their time reading through paragraphs to know what happened from Year 1 of the game.
