In Diablo 4, the 1.4.1 patch was deployed by Blizzard to improve the system's balance. However, Masterworking, the new endgame crafting system designed to enhance the affixes of legendary and unique items, seems to be facing problems because of it. Many players have faced the issue and found it to be greyed out and inaccessible in the blacksmith.
While players have found a way to fix the issue by doing the Pit run, not many know about it. This article will address this issue surrounding Masterworking and why it is temporarily disabled for some users.
Masterworking update is unavailable for some Diablo 4, but Blizzard is working on a hotfix
The key change in the new Diablo 4 1.4.1 patch was about the Masterworking system. It is an endgame crafting system made to improve the value of affixes. The update in Masterworking aimed to reduce the cost of gold, starting from Rank 5.
If everything worked as planned, the gold needed for Masterworking would drop, becoming up to 75% cheaper by Rank 12. After the May 28, 2024 update, the cost went down from 450,000 gold to 400,000. However, it appears that these changes led to an issue that broke the system.
Blizzard announced that Masterworking is currently disabled for some players. Diablo developers discussed this issue in a post on the Blizzard Forums. Community Manager Adam Fletcher mentioned that the team is working on a hotfix to solve the problem.
However, Blizzard has not given a specific date for when the hotfix will be available. It is currently unclear why Diablo 4’s Update 1.4.1 caused the crafting system to break.
Thankfully, there is a workaround for players affected by the issue until it is fully fixed. Fletcher’s post addressed that players can try running any Pit level or transmuting materials to unlock Diablo 4 Masterworking again. However, this specific problem isn’t the only issue in the latest season.
Players are frequently complaining on social media about new mount problems that didn’t exist since Season 1.
The new season brought major changes to itemization, improved Helltide events, etc. Just like with patch 1.4.1, Blizzard will keep making updates to improve the game in the future. What Blizzard plans to do right after Season 4 is still unknown. However, players can anticipate the launch of the Vessel of Hatred expansion in late 2024.
