This puzzle introduces rotating platforms that change the position of the environment in which one is located. Players need to position corridors to ensure the main character, Ida, gets to her intended location.

The rotating platforms are timed and observed, and the player has to predict how the change of the map affects everything. Each platform rotates in fixed degrees (typically 90 or 180), and this precision requires players to think several steps ahead.

The water-based mechanics in Monument Valley are used to change the level’s geometry on the basis of fluid dynamics. Just like with the water, players are also able to control the height of the ground to reveal new areas of the game. The goal is to navigate Ida across shifting water channels, compelling players to consider factors like buoyancy, height, and elevation.

This mechanic brings a fresh dynamic in which water is a means of advancing and makes the player consider how changing the water level affects their progress.

Players navigate Ida through logic-defying stairwells. In this puzzle, players can make her move in any direction depending on their control of the environment. The staircase puzzle requires them to think beyond rationality and try to follow the visuals to solve it. This puzzle showcases Monument Valley’s architectural impossibility and immerses them in a constantly changing and stunning world.

The Crow People puzzles bring in NPCs who slow down Ida. Owing to this, players have to plan around moving obstacles. These bird-like creatures move along set paths.

The player must manipulate the environment to prevent the creatures from reaching them or guide the creatures to a specific area of the map. This adds a new element of interaction to the otherwise lonely journey through Monument Valley.

The bridge puzzles are amongst the most memorable in Monument Valley, where the player is tasked with building or dismantling bridges to open new ways. This mechanic involves rearranging sections of the environment and creating connections that may initially seem impossible.

The challenge becomes more intricate when multiple segments need to be synchronized, as some bridges overlap or interfere with each other.
