What are the various defensive measures that can be taken to protect the vault from Deathclaw invasions?

1) Fat Man

The Fat Man is the best weapon vault dwellers have against Deathclaw invasions. The weapon has a high AoE and will hit multiple Deathclaws with each shot, making it perfect for situations where there is more than one Deathclaw in a room at a given time.

The key to its effectiveness lies in positioning: putting vault dwellers with the Fat Man in the entrance and key rooms guarantees the most damage before the Deathclaws disperse.

2) Upgrade vault door

Upgrading the vault door to its highest level reduces the frequency of Deathclaw invasions to a minimum. A fully upgraded door slows down Deathclaws' time to get into your vault, allowing you to prepare your dwellers.

This upgrade will not prevent them entirely, but the extra time it buys you means that the dwellers can be placed strategically in important rooms, and all healing items can be arranged before the fight starts.

3) Power Armor

Power Armor is a piece of important defensive equipment for vault dwellers assigned to fight Deathclaw invasions. Power Armor also increases the defense so Deathclaws will have a harder time taking out important characters. Dwellers in Power Armor can survive easily provided they have powerful weapons, particularly in the fight against Deathclaw invasions that move from one room to another.

4) Institute and Plasma rifles

For the most accurate results, it should be combined with dwellers with high Perception (Image via Bethesda Softworks LLC)

Both rifles have fire rate and consistent energy damage with a range of 15-19. These weapons shine in Deathclaw invasions because of the constant pressure they can apply. In the hands of dwellers in smaller rooms, both rifles ensure Deathclaws are whittled down as they travel from one room to another.

Its energy damage type is ideal for dealing with Deathclaws invasions, as it will chip away at their health rather fast while using a weapon like the slow and heavy-hitting Fat Man.

5) Pile Stimpak and RadAway

Having a couple of rooms to produce these healing items is crucial to any long-term Deathclaw survival plan (Image via Bethesda Softworks LLC)

Although not an offensive item, a large stock of Stimpaks and RadAways is a must-have since they will help your dwellers survive Deathclaw invasions. The strategy is to keep dwellers healthy with Stimpaks so they do not get overwhelmed. On the other hand, RadAway cleans the radiation damage from longer combats.

This means that no matter how far the Deathclaws penetrate into the vault, your dwellers will survive long enough to kill them.
