This official expansion adds eight new levels to the base game and expands upon the concepts that define Monument Valley. New elements in Forgotten Shores are things such as extending platforms and rotating bridges and the game features complex puzzles that combine architectural navigation with new aspects.

These levels are good examples of how expansion content can be easily incorporated into the base game so the players will continue playing even after finishing the storyline.

2) Ida's Dream

It is less dark than the base game but still offers a good level of difficulty that is familiar to the base game mechanics (Image via ustwo games)

Initially a stand-alone level, Ida’s Dream was later included in the main game as a free mode. A particular visual style is added at this level, using bright colors in a setting generally subdued for the rest of the game. In Ida’s Dream, the puzzle mechanics are all based on rotation and perspective changes and the goal is to understand how every move alters the environment.

The Lost Forest is a content pack that introduced a new level to Monument Valley 2. It is a chapter dedicated to forests, aiming to raise awareness for the Play4Forests petition and forest conservation. These levels feature puzzles that try out different geometries, from ones seen before to new interactions and even time-based mechanics. These levels extend the design of the official game but retain its simple elegance at the same time.

4) The Lost Levels

This mod is devoted to a set of levels that were never included in the game and were created as an experiment. The Lost Levels cover many ideas that were not used in the final game and touch upon one of the mechanics involving shadows and reflections as a means to solve puzzles.

In this level, Ida travels through a warped gray world, which likely represents her guilt and/or grief from destroying the Totem. At the end of the level, the gray sky turns into a pink sunrise, possibly representing acceptance. Players must use a lever and trigger various buttons to manipulate the walkway and finish the level.
