The esports circuit of many games die out over time because of a lack of investments and waning interest of the player base. However, Krafton has decided to keep its esports scene alive for a longer time by injecting $10 million into it, developing and expanding it even more than the global behemoth it has become now.
So how will Krafton use these funds to enhance its esports scene? Thankfully, James Yang had much to reveal.
Developing PUBG Mobile esports tournaments at regional levels

Firstly, this investment will be vital for the company to focus on developing esports leagues at the grassroots level. This money will increase the prize pools of regional tournaments worldwide, which will evolve to become the gateway for talented players and teams to participate in the bigger global tournaments.
This investment will go toward developing 20+ regional esports circuits in Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia, and North and South America.
Return of global events

With the success of the PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC) and the PMGC in 2024, these global events will return bigger and better. These tournaments will provide an international avenue for the most talented players to participate in and showcase their talents while inspiring the future generation of gamers by providing them with more opportunities.
The PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) will take place in the Spring of 2025 in Uzbekistan. However, talented players can bypass it by ranking in the Top 500 in Ultimate Royale. Moreover, the PMWC will take place in Riyadh as part of the Esports World Cup, while the PMGC will return in November next year in Thailand.
This is what James Yang had to say:
“This has been an incredible year for PUBG MOBILE Esports, with fantastic performances from professionals, great underdog moments, and record-breaking competitions. Heading into 2025, we are very excited to reveal our commitment to the development of grassroots esports opportunities. Next year will bring the professional scene closer than ever before to all players across the globe with new tournaments, new game modes, and new stars, taking their first steps to be the one.”
Driving collaborations and sustainability

This $10 million investment in esports will also be used in developing the PUBG Mobile Esports Partnership Program in 2025. This program is aimed at driving collaborations with players, as they can take part in events like the PDP Design, caster programs, and storytelling projects. Starting this initiative is the PDP Design Contest which is active until February 12, 2025. The best submissions in this contest will get prizes up to $60,000.
Innovating new game modes and developing female-focused esports events

Finally, this investment of $10 Million will also go toward improving the game’s Team Deathmatch, World of Wonder, and Metro Royale modes. Additionally, new female-only esports tournaments will introduced in 2025 for better representation of women in the global esports scene with the help of various incentivizing and supporting third-party tournaments. External organizations will also collaborate with the team, creating more opportunities for promising new players.
