Balatro bagged the coveted Best Mobile Game award at The Game Awards 2024. The title was nominated in the category alongside AFK Journey, Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero, and Pokemon Trade Card Game Pocket. Launched on September 26, 2024, for Android, iOS, and Apple Arcade, the poker-themed deck game quickly rose in popularity among players worldwide.

Hosted by Geoff Keighley, The Game Awards celebrated its 10th anniversary in Los Angeles, USA. While many titles made it to the list of nominations and winners, Balatro became one of the event's biggest highlights.

Developed by LocalThunk and published by PlayStack, Balatro is available on mobile devices, Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. The game was initially launched in February for PC and consoles and later for Android and iOS. It clinched the Best Mobile Game trophy at The Game Awards 2024.
LocalThunk and PlayStack's title also emerged victorious in the Best Debut Indie Game category, where they faced tough competition from Animal Well, Manor Lords, Pacific Drive, and The Plucky Squire.
Balatro also won in the Best Independent Game category, defeating popular titles like UFO 50, NEVA, Animal Well, and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes.

Balatro's nomination in the Game of the Year category boosted the title's popularity. The game was nominated alongside Astro Bot, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Black Myth: Wukong, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. However, Astro Bot walked away with the title.
Balatro also missed out on the Best Game Direction award (also won by Astro Bot). The other nominees in this category were Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
