Argus is the latest SSR character to debut in the Reverse 1999 version 2.1 update. She belongs to the Plant Afflatus and deals Reality damage. Her attacks target a single enemy, dealing decent damage, applying debuffs, and removing Stats Up and Pos Status from enemies. The Arcanist can also buff allies by increasing their card’s rank and using a follow-up attack called Grave Digger.

Reverse 1999 Argus build guide: Skills explanation

Here are Argus’ skills in Reverse 1999:

  • Shotgun Shower (Basic Skill 1): This deals 160%/280%/450% damage with one/two/three-star cards. It also grants her Empower Incantation I with a one-star card for one round, Empower Incantation II with a two-star card for one round, and Empower Incantation II with a three-star card for two rounds.
  • Penetrating Eye (Basic Skill 2): This removes all Stats Up and Pos Status from one enemy and applies Pinpointed status on them for three rounds with one/two/three-star cards. Only one Pinpointed status can be present at a time on the battlefield.
  • No Mark Unstuck (Ultimate Skill): No Mark Unstruck deals 500% damage to a single target. If the enemy is under the Pinpointed status effect right before she attacks, the effect increases by five stacks, and its duration is refreshed. The skill’s penetration and critical rate also buff by 30%.

Explanation of status effects

  • Pinpointed: This reduces enemies’ Damage Taken reduction and Critical Defense by 15%. If she is attacked by one/two/three/rankless cards, the effect’s stack increases by two/three/four/one. Each stack reduces the Damage Taken reduction and critical Defense by 2% (can stack up to 15 times).
  • Empower Incantation I: This grants one star to one random card in the AP Area at the round’s start.
  • Empower Incantation II: This grants one star to two random cards in the AP Area at the round’s beginning.

Here are the best Reverse 1999 Psychubes for Argus:

  • Stray Off the Path (6-star): After she casts her skills, Argus' subsequent extra action gets 24% Incantation Might. Additionally, she gains a 12% critical damage buff (stacks up to three times).
  • Outside the City (6-star): After she casts Grave Digger, Argus' critical damage increases by 5% (can stack up to 10 times). The critical rate buffs by 12% at ten stacks.
  • Luxurious Leisure (6-star): After casting her Ultimate, Argus' damage-dealing ability increases by 9% (can stack up to three times.
  • Blasphemer of Night (6-star): If the enemy has two or more Neg Statuses, Argus' damage-dealing ability while attacking increases by 24%.

Insight I: Her damage-dealing ability buffs by 10%/15%/25% after she casts a one/two/three-star rank card to all allies for two rounds.

Insight II: The Arcanist's critical rate buffs by 10% when she enters the battle.

Insight III: It adds a card, Grave Digger, to the queue right before the cards in the AP Area resolve. The card’s rank is based on the total ranks of all cards played in the current round. It prefers attacking the enemy under the Pinpointed status effect and is considered an extra action.

  • Played three to four ranks: Adds a ranked one Grave Digger card that deals 100% Reality damage.

Argus takes the role of a Sub-DPS and Support in a Reverse 1999 team. Her offensive support kit and ability to increase cards’ ranks help DPS characters deal massive damage. Pairing her with Plant Afflatus Marcus, Spirit Afflatus Mercuria, and Intelligence Afflatus Lucy is best for the DPS.

Timekeepers can use healers such as Star Afflatus Tooth Fairy, Plant Afflatus Kakania, and Plant Afflatus Vila while building a Reverse 1999 team with this Arcanist.
