Marc Marquez claimed the pole position at the 2015 Australian Moto GP qualifying after finishing with a time of 1:2*.364 in Q2 to finish on pole position. Andrea Iannone of Ducati finished in second place with a time of 1:28.680 while Jorge Lorenzo, finished in third place with the same time as Iannone.
But the biggest surprise of the day turned out to be Valentino Rossi, who finished in 7th position qualifying with a time of 1:29.014, behind the likes of Dani Pedrosa(4th), Cal Crutchlow(5th) and Maverick Vinales.
Rossi is currently on top of the Moto GP standings with a tally of 283 points, followed by Lorenzo who is in second place with 265 points followed by Marquez who is in third with 197 points.
It now remains to be seen if the Italian can come back and do well in the race on Sunday and maintain his lead in the world standings.
