The 2013 British Grand Prix saw an exciting series of turn arounds before Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo took victory to close the gap to retain the Championship.
Just three hours before the race, Championship leader Marc Marquez was involved in a heavy crash during Warm-up. This dislocated his shoulder but he was deemed fit for the race.
Reigning Champion Lorenzo had a great race, during which he exchanged the lead with Marquez thrice just during the last few corners of the final lap. He made the crucial pass to take the lead before the flag to claim his first victory in 6 races. The young Honda driver took second, just 0.081s behind his fellow Spaniard to take his 11th Podium this Season.
Dani Pedrosa finished in 3rd ahead of Italian Valentino Rossi. Crowd favorite Cal Crutchlow took a mediocre 7th after suffering a crash in Warm-up.
Marc Marquez was handed two penalty points for his warm up crash as he failed to slow down for yellow flags. His bike almost took out the Marshals who were clearing Crutchlow’s bike. Two more penalty points and he will have to start from the back of the grid.
Even with this second place, Marquez has extended his lead to 30 points over his teammate Pedrosa. Lorenzo sits in 3rd a further 9 points behind.
6 races remain in the 2013 MotoGP Season with the next race scheduled for 15th of September at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy. A track named in honor of the late Marco Simoncelli who died in a crash at the Sepang International Circuit in 2011.
