Former Williams and McLaren driver Juan Pablo Montoya has announced that he will return to IndyCar racing in 2014, 14 years after he left the series to compete in F1.
The Colombian, who has been racing in NASCAR for 8 years, decided not to renew his contract with his current team Chip Ganassi Racing team. On Monday he announced his switch to Penske Racing Team.
He said: “I am really excited to join this legendary team beginning next year. I have had the opportunity to drive for some of the best racing teams in the world and I have always admired Roger Penske and his organization. I consider it an honour to be offered the opportunity to drive for Team Penske.”
Team owner Roger Penske said: “Juan is a proven winner at all levels of motorsport. He has won a lot of races and championships and he has an extremely passionate fan base. We look forward to building on his successes together and we believe he will be a great addition to Team Penske.”
Montoya won a F1 race 7 times, scoring 30 podiums. In NASCAR he took 3 victories in total.
