Sebastien Loeb smashed the Pikes Peak International Hill climb record in Colorado on Sunday.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb – also known as the ‘Race to the Clouds’ is a 19.99 km (12.42 miles) dash to the summit of Pikes Peak in the Colorado Rockies.
This year nine time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb joined forces with Peugeot to tackle the ascent.
Piloting a specially constructed Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak, Loeb negotiated the route – with 156 bends and steep drops over the sides – in a time of 8 minutes 13.88 seconds.
Afterwards he said he felt a lot of pressure before the event.
Sebastien Loeb:“It was really good. A lot of pressure on the start because you know all the work of the team behind this project – and I am the only one who can make a mistake and break it. So, it was a pressure but since the start of the test the feeling with the car was really good. I was concentrated on my drive, I had a very good drive, no mistakes, pushing hard. So for sure I am really satisfied to reach the top at first without any mistake and the time is really good.”
Loeb smashed the previous record by over a minute and a half.
