MotoGP

MotoGP refers to the premier class of motorcycle events held on racing circuits around the world sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The foundation of a recognized international governing body for motorcycle racing, the FIM in 1949 framed the rules and regulations in order so that selected events could be counted as the official World Championships as FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix. The oldest established Motorsport championship in the world.

MotoGP motorcycles are purpose-built racing machines, they are not street legal motorcycles and usually cannot be purchased by an individual.

The current Championship is divided into three classes: MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3. All the three classes use 4stroke engines The 2018 season has 19 Grands Prix’s in total.

The Riders

The most famous names in Moto GP are Valentino Rossi, Giacomo Agostini, Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Kenny Roberts and the late Nicky Hayden. The most successful being Giacomo Agostini an Italian rider with 8 Moto GP Championship and a total of 15 Championships to his credit in Grand Prix racing, the star of the last decade is Valentino Rossi with a huge fan base around the world, another Italian with 7 Moto GP championships and total of 9 Grand Prix Championships.

The Motorcycles

All the top motorcycle manufacturers take part in the Grand Prix series. The most famous among them are Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, MV Agusta, Aprilia, BMW, and Suzuki. The manufacturer with the most championships with all the classes included is Honda with 67 Championships and Yamaha with 47 championships.
