David Gilliland is a renowned NASCAR driver who drove in all three prominent NASCAR series, such as the Cup, Xfinity, and Truck Series. While he had short stints in the Xfinity and Truck Series, the 48-year-old driver from Riverside, California, is best known for his Cup Series exploits. However, his solitary victory across all three series came in the Xfinity Series.

Gilliland had a rollercoaster career in Stock Car racing. He made his NASCAR debut with the Truck Series when he took part in the 2005 Las Vegas 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In the same year, he made his debut in the Xfinity Series as well.

His first Xfinity Series race was the 2005 Bashas' Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix. However, he did not win any race that season. It was only in 2006 that Gilliland claimed his first and only NASCAR victory by winning the 2006 Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway, Kentucky.

In the same year, Gilliland made his Cup Series debut with the 2006 Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. Despite the fame and numerous appearances in the top tier of Stock Car racing, Gilliland was unable to register a Cup Series victory in his 12 years of racing.

His most significant achievement in the series was securing the pole position for the 2007 Daytona 500. Gilliland failed to register a victory in the Truck Series as well, despite running 22 races in seven years. All in all, he triumphed once in 411 NASCAR outings.

David Gilliland's NASCAR Statistics

David Leonard Gilliland, popularly known as David Gilliland, was born on April 1, 1976, in Riverside, California. He started racing at a very young age. By 1999, he won the track championship at Perris Auto Speedway and climbed up the ladder to NASCAR.

Gilliland made his debut in the ARCA Menards Series West in 1997 and won five races there. His statistics in this series were quite impressive — 50 races, five wins, five pole positions, and 28 Top 10s.

As he continued to excel in the ARCA Menards Series West, he soon made his debut in the Truck, Xfinity, and Cup Series. However, he was unable to maintain his impressive form in the top tier of stock car racing.

In the Truck Series, he secured two pole positions and finished in the Top 10 six times in 22 races. In the Xfinity Series, he claimed one victory and three Top 10 finishes in 56 races. His Cup Series career includes three pole positions and eight Top 10 finishes in 333 races.

Gilliland's final Xfinity Series race was the 2010 Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Eight years later, he competed in his last Cup Series race, the 2018 Daytona 500. Despite this, he continued his racing career, participating in the Truck Series as recently as 2023.

Notably, David Gilliland's son, Todd Gilliland, is a renowned Cup Series driver now. He raced for Front Row Motorsport in 2024, driving the #34 Ford Mustang Dark Horse.
