Kyle Larson is one of the most successful motorsports drivers currently competing in the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, and IndyCar Series. He has also achieved significant victories in dirt track racing, including the prestigious Kings Royal, Knoxville Nationals, and Chili Bowl Nationals.
Larson, who is from Northern California, joined NASCAR in 2012 and quickly established himself as a formidable competitor. He has secured 10 NASCAR Cup victories, including the prestigious All-Star Race, and clinched the championship title in 2021 while driving for Hendrick Motorsports. That season, he led 2,581 laps, the most since Jeff Gordon in 1995.
That same year, the 32-year-old won the Kings Royal for the first time. The Kings Royal is one of the world’s most coveted sprint car races. It features top-tier competitors from around the globe and is held every year at the half-mile Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
Larson drove the No. 57 car owned by Paul Silva at the 37th Kings Royal event. However, it was not an easy race for him as he crashed during the Last Chance Showdown (LCS) and damaged his car. He later started from the fifth row in the main event and worked his way through the field. By the halfway point, he had successfully overtaken key competitors Tyler Courtney and James McFadden, securing the lead and ultimately claiming victory.
He also won other major dirt track events like the Chili Bowl and the Knoxville Nationals in 2021.
"It all happened really fast" - Kyle Larson on Atlanta crash
Kyle Larson had a tough first playoff race as he suffered a big crash during the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway last Sunday.
The 32-year-old was in third place when, on Lap 56, his car lost grip.Despite his attempts to regain control, the car crashed heavily into the wall, resulting in significant damage to his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports car.
"It was a big hit. Not sure what caused it. I was tight in the corner, and then the car just snapped loose suddenly. It all happened really fast," Larson said while describing the mishap.
Larson's car slid across the track after the crash. Most drivers managed to avoid him, but Chase Briscoe could not stop in time and crashed into the former's car. As a result, both were out of the race.
"I knew he was coming down the racetrack and just kept trying to feed the thing left and slow it down, and I couldn’t get left quick enough and then he kind of started sliding back down the track at the very last minute, so I tried to turn back right to avoid him and just KO’d him. It was a big hit. One of the biggest hits I’ve had in a long time," Briscoe said after the race.
Larson finished 37th with 30 bonus points and is now 15 points above the cut-line. Briscoe, on the other hand, finished 38th and is now 21 points below the playoff cut-line.
