Hendrick Motorsports star driver Alex Bowman recently got done and dusted with his 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season but preparations for an event in Oklahoma are underway. The 31-year-old is set to manage a fleet of four midget car machines at the 'Super Bowl of midget racing' in January 2025.
The No. 48 Chevrolet driver will participate in the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals albeit as a team owner. His team, Alex Bowman Racing, will field Jake Swanson, C.J. Leary, and Kevin Thomas Jr. While these three A-main starters competed this year, Briggs Danner, a newcomer is set to join the #55 team, with Ally as its primary sponsor, at the dirt track in Tulsa Expo Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Tucson, Arizona native Bowman last competed as a driver in the 2023 Chili Bowl Nationals and made it to the D-main. Since then he has reduced his offseason co-curricular activities and focused primarily on NASCAR's premier division. However, he once opened up on his love for building cars and staying in touch with his roots.
"It has consumed my offseasons since 2015 when we built the first car." Bowman said on a DIRTTRACKR podcast. "I love building race cars. I love having something to do. I grew up working on all my stuff. Really until I started racing stock cars, I was the primary mechanic, crew chief and all of it on my race cars."
The Rick Hendrick driver also shared his team's preparation for the January 2025 midget race, which is considered the biggest midget race of the year.
"I'm thrashing like on Christmas Day,": Alex Bowman shares an update on ABR prep for the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals
In a conversation with Frontstretch, Alex Bowman confirmed his four midget machine drivers for the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa. He also shared an insight on his preparation for building the car amid a fourth entry to the #55 Ally team.
During the media interaction at the NASCAR Awards banquet, Bowman spoke about how much work is left on the four midget cars. He said:
"Jake's car is the same car so it's been done since the summer. CJ's car is a new car but we built it last season so it's been pretty done. The other two have been a lot of work." [0:15]
Bowman then continued:
"So, I'm in a good spot typically. I'm thrashing like on Christmas day still this year. I mean I should be done with them this weekend, barring any issues. Feel like you always run into something building new cars, but yeah, I love that stuff, I love spending time in my shop and I'm way further ahead than I normally am."
Alex Bowman started his racing career driving quarter midgets in the United States Auto Club (USAC) competition and made a name for himself at an early age. Having won championships in the Dirt Focus Midget, the #48 Chevy driver ventured into stock-car racing and ultimately debuted full-time in the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Since his debut, Bowman has competed in over 300 Cup races and has amassed eight wins, including one in the 2024 season.
