Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon currently serves as vice chairman for the 14-time Cup Series championship-winning Hendrick Motorsports. Apart from being in an executive management position, Gordon is also a part owner of the iconic team since 1999.
The California-born driver became a part of the top US-based stock car racing league in 1992. He was offered a full-time role in HMS for the 1993 season by Rick Hendrick. Driving the #24 car, Gordon rose to fame courtesy of his intense on-track rivalry with the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr.
By securing four Cup Series titles (1995, 1997, 1998, and 2001), the HMS racer eventually became one of the most influential person in NASCAR. He retired from a full-time racing role at the end of the 2015 season and was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2019.
Gordon, in addition to being a racer for HMS, became a part-owner of the team in 1999. Post-retirement, he stepped into the role of vice chairman at the beginning of the 2022 season. This makes the $200 million NASCAR driver the second-most influential figure in the team, second only to the chairman, founder, and co-owner, Rick Hendrick.
With 93 race wins, 81 pole positions, 352 Top-5s, and 475 Top-10 finishes in a career spanning over two decades, Gordon is currently the third most successful Cup Series racer (in terms of all-time wins) in NASCAR's history behind the legendary Richard Petty and David Pearson who have 200 and 105 wins, respectively.
Apart from being in an executive role for HMS, Gordon also worked as an Analyst and Broadcaster with FOX Sports. He also serves as a brand ambassador for the motorsport on the global level.
"I cannot put into words what Hendrick Motorsports means to me" - Jeff Gordon on becoming vice chairman of Hendrick Motorsports
After an illustrious career as one of Hendrick Motorsports' most successful drivers, NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon returned to the team in 2022 as vice chairman. The Californian racer, who is also a co-owner of the side, shared his excitement during a press announcement ahead of the 2022 season.
"I cannot put into words what Hendrick Motorsports means to me. In many ways, it’s my home and the people here are my family. I’ve never lost my passion for the organization, for our sport, and for the sheer challenge of racing and winning at the highest level," Gordon said.
"Being part of the competition is where I’m happiest and feel I can make the biggest contribution to the continued, long-term success of the team. Rick and I have a shared vision, which is based on the values he’s instilled, the culture he’s built and our desire to be the very best in all categories, on and off the track," he added.
Apart from being the vice chairman at HMS, Gordon is also a member of NASCAR's diversity, equity, and inclusion committee.
