Jeff Gordon is an influential personality in the world of motor racing. He debuted in NASCAR in 1990 in the Busch Series (now called the Xfinity Series) and a little over two years later, he went on the track in Atlanta to mark his debut in the Cup Series with Hendrick Motorsports.
He continued to race with the team up until 2016 before retiring and is still associated with the team as its Vice Chairman. In all these years, it is apparent that Hendrick Motorsports is like another family for Gordon.
He originally hails from Vallejo, California. His biological father William Grinnell Gordon and mother Carol Ann Bickford separated when he was an infant. His mother then married John Bickford in 1970, his stepfather. Jeff Gordon has one sibling, his sister, Kimberly “Kim” Coykendall. She is four years older than him. Although Gordon has earned himself quite a name in motorsports, his sister has kept her life private.
Although he does not have any other siblings, he is also related to James Bickford. Gordon is Bickford's paternal cousin. The latter is also a racing driver, having participated in the K&N Pro Series in 2014 and 2015.
It is interesting to note that while four-time Cup Series champion Gordon is considered to be a superstar in the NASCAR world, intricate details of his family have been kept private.
HMS owner Rick Hendrick appreciates Jeff Gordon and his work with the team
Throughout his career, Gordon exclusively raced with Hendrick Motorsports. He claimed 93 victories and 81 pole positions in the Cup Series between 1992 and 2016. He remained an important figure within the team during his racing career.
In June of 2021, HMS announced the appointment of Gordon as its Vice Chairman and he assumed the role in January 2022. He has since been associated with the team as a strategic planner, working alongside Rick Hendrick, who appreciates Gordon for his business mind.
"It's been fun. Jeff Gordon always had a great business head on his shoulder. He was always good at business. He knew the organization so well and I go back to that chemistry and that being able to grow people from the inside and character is huge and when people come visit that place, they talk about the professionalism and the character of the company. And Jeff Gordon is a big part of that," Hendrick said on the Business of Motorsports podcast. [at 29:10]
Hendrick Motorsports remains to be the most successful NASCAR team in the history of the sport.
