Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson once attempted to mimic fellow drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, and Kyle Busch.
In a May 2016 video by NASCAR, Johnson made quite accurate impressions while playing Forza Motorsport 6 NASCAR Expansion on Xbox One. Johnson began with Dale Jr. and imitated his driving posture with the head leaning towards the right.
"It looks to me like his head’s here when he’s driving, I don’t know why. I feel like I’m falling out of the right side. This is working! I’m pulling away... Jr. you onto something, man," Johnson said.
Next, he moved to Kahne and teased his habit of shaking while driving.
"Wanted to tremble a little bit with my hands for Kasey…Sorry, Kasey. He does have a shaking thing," Johnson joked.
When it came to Kyle Busch, Johnson laughed about his unusual seating position.
"When we were teammates years ago, somehow his legs were like this. I don’t know what it is about driving with legs like that. But that’s how he does it. His legs are way down there," he said.
Finally, he attempted Jeff Gordon’s driving style and said:
"Mr. Bean rule, it’s kind of comfortable...I got in his car at Phoenix and thought, how do you do this."
Jimmie Johnson in the No. 48 Chevy was teammates with the four-time Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon (No. 24) at Hendrick Motorsports during the 2000s and 2010s.
"We loved to race one another" - Gordon on being teammates with Jimmie Johnson
Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson shared intense battles throughout their driving careers.
One memorable showdown came when Johnson won his eighth race at Martinsville Speedway in 2007. Johnson worked his way to the front from 20th place and in the final laps, he held off Gordon to win.
Another came during the 2011 Atlanta Motor Speedway race, where Gordon beat Johnson and moved to third on NASCAR’s all-time win list with his 85th career win. The race was also noteworthy as it was delayed by Tropical Storm Lee and was the first NASCAR Cup Series race held on a Tuesday since 2007.
Gordan recently reflected on his friendship with Johnson in an interview and said:
"We loved to race one another. We really loved to beat one another and that was one of those days where I felt like I had the car and had the track position and it was our day to pull that one off." (via Hendrick Motorsports).
Jimmie Johnson finished sixth in the points in 2011 but won only two races during the season.
