TheCook Out 400 race is a 300 mile long event; however, the exact length of race depends on the raceday conditions and actual event itself. The Cook Out 400 race shares its name with another event which occurs on the Martinsville Speedway. However, unlike its similar counterpart, the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Speedway offers an entirely different experience to the viewers. Although, there are many differences between the two races. The primary difference is the track these two races are held at. The race poses a new challenge to the drivers at the Richmond Speedway. Martinsville is a short track oval whereas Richmond Raceway is longer and requires a better strategy.

The Cook Out 400 race held at the Richmond Speedway is one of the last races of the Regular season for the NASCAR Cup Series. The drivers will eagerly compete to either increase their lead or to secure a seat in the NASCAR playoffs. The Cook Out 400 race will be held over the weekend from August 10th to August 11th. The qualifying session for the race will be held on Saturday, August 10th and the main race will take place on Sunday, August 11th. The Cook Out 400 race is divided into three stages- the first stage is 80 laps long; the second stage is 155 laps long and the final stage of the race is 165 laps long.

The Cook Out 400 will take place at the Richmond Raceway, in Richmond, Virginia in the United States. The track is 0.75 miles long. It has the characteristics of both intermediate and short-track racing. The race started as a 200-lap event in 1958. It was then extended to 300 laps from 1962 to 1968. The race was even hosted as a 500 laps event from 1970 to 1975. However, the race switched to its current 400-lap schedule in 1976 and has stayed the same ever since then.

Cook Out restaurants took up the sponsorship of the race in 2023 and since then, the race has been renamed as the Cook Out 400. The sponsor, Cook Out is a privately owned fast-food chain operating in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Mississippi. It was founded in 1989 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The restaurant mostly offers drive-thru service and no indoor seating.
