Rusty Wallace Jr. (Russell William Wallace) is a NASCAR driver with 55 NASCAR Cup Series wins. He is among the top NASCAR drivers and ranks 11th on NASCAR’s all-time wins list. He has also been inducted into halls of fame in different racing formats, including NASCAR.

As a driver, Wallace influenced the commercialization of NASCAR during the 1990s and 2000s. He came into business after retiring from racing in 2005. He owns nine dealerships and his business, the Rusty Wallace Automotive Group, works across Eastern Tennessee and represents brands like Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota. Here's a list of the dealerships under his name:

  6. Wallace Hyundai

Rusty Wallace’s transition to business

After retiring from racing, Rusty Wallace stayed connected to the sport by becoming a broadcaster and the lead auto racing analyst for ABC and ESPN. He later became a speaker on MRN Radio which has over 700 affiliates nationwide.

Aside from broadcasting, Wallace also went on to design the Iowa Speedway, a ⅞ mile oval track built by taking inspiration from the Richmond International Raceway, where he won six races.

Wallace is not the first entrepreneur in his family which has been involved in the business since 1921 when F. Earl Wallace became one of Georgia’s earliest Chevrolet dealers. He joined the business after Roger Penske talked him into thinking about what he wanted to do once he was done racing in the early 1990s. In an interview with Autoweek, on April 12, 2020, he said:

“I don’t think any of the drivers were really doing that [business] back when we started. Not to pat myself on the back, but I want to pat Roger Penske on the back. He was the one who said I need to start thinking about life after racing. He wanted me to be prepared for when racing was done one of these days.”

Wallace is on the NASCAR Foundation board of directors and the head of the Development Committee for initiatives that deal with charitable work for children's interests.
