Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Dale Earnhardt was married three times. He first got married to Latane Brown in 1968 when he was just 17. They had one son, Kerry, in the second year of their marriage.

A year after his divorce in 1970, Earnhardt married Brenda Gee and had two children, Kelley and Dale Earnhardt Jr. However, they divorced shortly after Dale Jr. was born in 1974. The NASCAR legend later started his career in stock car racing and made his debut in the Cup Series in 1975 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He won 76 races in 676 Cup Series starts over 27 years.

Earnhardt married his third wife Teresa Houston in 1982. The couple had a daughter, Taylor Nicole Earnhardt, in 1988. Teresa, who is the niece of Busch Series driver Tommy Houston, was the president and CEO of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI). Earnhardt founded the company in 1980.

Teresa also helped make changes in Florida’s public record laws. The state passed the Earnhardt Family Protection Act to keep autopsy photos, videos, and recordings private after Earnhardt died in a crash at the Daytona 500.

Dale Earnhardt's third wife, Teresa's role in DEI

After Dale Earnhardt's tragic death in 2001, Teresa became the sole owner of the team. She led (DEI) to two Busch Series titles and two Craftsman Truck Series titles in the late 1990s. She also co-owned Chance 2 Motorsports which won championships in 2004 and 2005.

However, Teresa's time at DEI was filled with controversy after she refused her step-children more control over the team. Earnhardt Jr. left in 2007 because of ownership disagreements and joined Hendrick Motorsports.

DEI later expanded into entertainment and bought Ginn Racing. The team merged with Chip Ganassi Racing to become Earnhardt Ganassi Racing in 2008.

In an episode of the "Dale Jr Download" podcast, Earnhardt Jr., who now co-owns JR Motorsports with sister Kelley, talked about his relationship with Teresa in an interview.

"It wasn’t always warm and fuzzy… but that was okay. I’ll say one thing about Teresa and she was always fair. She never made an unfair proposition. I never felt like, ‘Man, I’m not getting good enough equipment.’ We just didn’t have much of a relationship," Earnhardt Jr. said.

In October this year, Teresa shared her plans to turn 399 acres of rural land in Mooresville into an industrial park, Mooresville Technology Park. The site is only 2.5 miles from the racing team's headquarters.

Teresa submitted a rezoning application to transform the former farmland into a business and industrial area.
