In 2021, Patrick Mahomes had a face-off with Kyle Busch in an online racing simulation video game where the NFL star was asked to wreck Busch, but his effort went in vain.
The Kansas City Chiefs QB joined NASCAR veteran Clint Bowyer in a friendly race at the Chiefs' facility, where they placed two iRacing setups for Mahomes and Bowyer. Meanwhile, two-time Cup Series champion Busch joined them virtually from another location.
To make it more realistic, former driver-turned-analyst Bowyer called in a spotter for Mahomoes, but to everyone's surprise, Eric Stonestreet, the famed actor from the sitcom Modern Family, stood up on a raised platform beside Mahomes and called the shots in a hilarious manner.
Moreover, Stonestreet advised the Super Bowl MVP to push Busch's car, which ultimately backfired, as Mahomes spun on the track. After driving through the victory lane, Busch took a jibe at his iRacing competitors:
"I guess I'm winning."
Coming back to the real world, the Richard Childress Racing driver Busch and the other NASCAR drivers have entered the offseason after a breathtaking 2024 NASCAR campaign.
While several drivers are taking time off, or vacationing in several parts of the world, the 39-year-old Busch has decided to get into the world of midget racing and is preparing for the 'biggest midget race of the year', the Chili Bowl Nationals.
"Hopefully, I don't embarrass myself" - Kyle Busch shares his first-hand reaction after testing midget cars
NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch announced his participation in the Chili Bowl Nationals in January next year. The 63-Cup race winner will get behind the wheel of the #51 Lucas Oil/FloRacing midget for the first time in his storied career.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Las Vegas native expressed his thoughts as he starts his testing for the 'Super Bowl of midget racing' in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kyle Busch said:
"Here at Rockfish, North Carolina today to get my first chance of testing in a midget. Never driven a midget before so first time for everything, I guess.
"Hopefully, I don’t embarrass myself. It’s cool, it’s fun. It’s different but not all that different than the micro stuff. I mean, you’re just… the speed, you’re going so much faster, and the rpm range is lower." [2:30]
The former Cup champion added:
"For a first go around, just getting used to the car, getting a feel of the car, I feel like there was a point where I got real comfortable with it,” Busch said. “Appreciate Lucas Oil and FloRacing for the opportunity to go out to Chili Bowl and we’ll run a few times before that so can’t wait."
As far as the 2024 NASCAR season is concerned, Kyle Busch failed to continue his record streak of clinching a win in every full-time season since his rookie year. He will be back in action for his third season with RCR at the esteemed Dayton 500 race in February.
