NASCAR driver Jeffrey Earnhardt scored a second place finish in Talladega in 2022 and reflected on the significance of the result after the race. Speaking to Fox after crossing the finish line, Dale Earnhardt's grandson talked about what he needed to score the victory, and expressed his gratitude to be able to be a part of the race.

Earnhardt scored this second place finish at the Ag-Pro 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race in April 2022. Speaking in an interview after the race, Earnhardt talked about how appreciative he was to get the opportunity to run the race:

“I'm living a dream here and I'm so thankful to get this opportunity, so thankful for everyone for allowing me to come do this. You know, all the fans, RCR for building this amazing race car, we were fast all weekend long and we just fell a little short there.” [0:21 - 0:39]

Talking also about what he needed to win the race, Earnhardt said:

"Just a push there at the end, you know, everyone spreads apart and it's really hard to build a run by yourself without someone out the back and you know, unfortunately our teammates got wiped out early." [0:11 - 0:20]

Jeffrey Earnhardt was the only RCR driver to make it into the Top 10 of the race, with his teammates Sheldon Creed and Austin Hill ending the race in 24th and 27th respectively.

The Talladega Superspeedway race was one of 13 starts that Earnhardt had in the 2022 season, and his singular start for RCR in his time in the Xfinity Series.

The #3 driver began the race in pole position and completed it as the runner-up, making it his highest start and his highest finish in his career in the second-tier of NASCAR racing. His finishing position in the Ag-Pro 300 race in 2022 is also one of his only two Top 5 finishes in the series.

Jeffrey Earnhardt talked about continuing the legacy of the #3 car

The 2022 season allowed Jeffrey Earnhardt the opportunity to drive the RCR #3 car in the Xfinity Series. The car number is linked to his grandfather, NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt, who drove the #3 for 529 races, scoring 67 wins, and 227 top fives during his time in the car.

Speaking about getting to be a part of the history of the car, Jeffrey said (via Autoweek):

"What a dream come true. The chance to be behind the wheel of the No. 3 car for RCR, that my pawpaw made famous, has long been a dream of mine, and now it’s finally happening."

He also went on to say:

"The No. 3 car is cherished by a lot of people, and I know how much it means to him. To give me this opportunity is something I’ll never forget."

Jeffrey Earnhardt scored his highest finish in the Xfinity Series driving his grandfather's number, missing the top spot in the race by 0.131 seconds behind Noah Gragson.
