In the last five years, Kyle Larson has been the winningest driver at the non-points paying exhibition race. The Hendrick Motorsports icon has won three times since recording his first victory in 2019. His three wins at the coveted race tied him with NASCAR vets like Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon for all-time second in the history of the star-studded event.
Kyle Larson won the race in its inaugural year at the Texas Motor Speedway. He also emerged victorious in the prestigious event as it visited North Wilkesboro Speedway for the first time last year.
The NASCAR All-Star Race is just hours from unleashing its fury on the 0.625-mile North Wilkesboro Speedway for the second consecutive year. The All-Star qualifying, also known as the All-Star Open, will commence on May 17 at 5:30 p.m. The main event will roll out the next day at 8 p.m. ET and will be aired live on FS1, with selected coverages on SiriusXM NASCAR radio and MRN.
On that note, here are the winners of the NASCAR All-Star Race from the last five years:
#5. 2019- Kyle Larson
Larson lifted the trophy at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He took home the hefty $1 million cash prize for the first time in 2019.
"It feels amazing," Larson exclaimed, as reported by Arkansas Online. "I came close to winning a couple of years ago. It feels good to close it out."
That year, Larson finished sixth in the NASCAR Cup Series with 2339 points.
#4. 2020- Chase Elliott
Kyle Larson's teammate, Chase Elliott etched his name alongside his Hall of Famer father Bill Elliott, by winning the 2020 All-Star event at Bristol Motor Speedway. Leading 60 of the 140-lap event, Elliott defeated the then-reigning Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch to seize the deal in the closing laps.
"Oh my gosh, there's no feeling like it, nothing like it," said the Dawsonville native moments after winning the race, as reported by Bristol Motor Speedway. "Bristol is an electric atmosphere unlike any place we go to. We're going to celebrate this one for sure.
"There's nothing like Bristol. There's nothing like the lights here. There's nothing like racing here. I've never won here - what a race to do it. Just really proud of our team tonight and rebounding," he added.
#3. 2021- Kyle Larson
Larson won the race for the second time at Texas Motor Speedway and celebrated his victory by performing an entire lap-long burnout. It was also the 11th All-Star race win for Hendrick Motorsports. With that, he became the fourth driver to have won the race at least thrice.
#4. 2022- Ryan Blaney
Ryan Blaney's win was special because he was the first driver to have ever pushed the NextGen car to the victory lane at the NASCAR All-Star race. The Team Penske star held off Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Denny Hamlin by 0.266 seconds en route to an overtime finish. It was also Blaney's first All-Star Race win.
That season, Blaney finished the NASCAR Cup Series in eighth position with 2354 points to his name. He had four podim finishes, including two instances at the Phoenix Speedway and the Talladega Superspeedway.
#5. 2023- Kyle Larson
Kyle Larson built on his Truck Series triumph the day before and recorded another dominant victory, leading a race-high 145 laps.
"I can't even tell you what it means," said Larson as reported by the official Hendrick Motorsports site. "This is my third all-star win and my third different track. In an historical place like that, you guys and the crowd made this weekend so awesome."
After this year's All-Star Race, Kyle Larson will prepare for his double-duty during the Memorial Day weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and The Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Larson has already been enjoying an impressive Cup Series so far this season, as he currently leads the standings with 486 points, winning two races.
