Michael Christopher McDowell is an American professional stock car racing driver, who competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 34 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Front Row Motorsports. McDowell used to race BMX bicycles at the start of his career when he was just three years old. He moved to kart racing at the age of eight, and after almost ten years in karting, he won the World Karting Association championship and the International Kart Federation championships back to back.
From karts, McDowell moved to open-wheel championships such as Formula Renault in 2002 and ARCA Series in 2006. McDowell debuted in the Craftsman Truck Series at the 2007 Kroger 200, Martinsville, for Darrell Waltrip Motorsports, driving the No. 17. After moving to the Xfinity Series in the same year as a developmental driver for Nextel Cup Series Team Michael Waltrip Racing, McDowell soon made his debut in the Cup Series at the 2008 Goody’s Cool Orange 500, Martinsville, where he started 34th and finished 26th. McDowell has won two races in the Cup Series so far namely, the 2021 Daytona 500, and the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard. He has managed to secure 43 top-ten finishes and three poles.
